Why Rabbit?
RUFUS BFF began with a focus on rabbit for its Beast Treats, as rabbit is exceptional, a powerhouse of nutrition that's often overlooked but is now taking center stage in the world of pet food.
- High-Quality Protein: Rabbit is packed with high-quality protein, essential for muscle development, repair, and overall growth in pets. It's leaner than most meats, meaning less fat and more muscle-building power.
- Hypoallergenic: For BFFs with sensitive stomachs or allergies, rabbit is a windfall. It's less likely to cause allergic reactions compared to common proteins like chicken or beef, making it ideal for food sensitivities.
- Rich in Essential Nutrients: Rabbit is a treasure trove of vital nutrients. It's rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, which promote healthy skin and a shiny coat, and contains significant amounts of Vitamin B12, iron, and phosphorus, crucial for energy, blood health, and bone strength.
- Digestibility: The protein in rabbit is highly digestible, which means your Friends can efficiently absorb the nutrients, leading to better overall health and less waste.
- Low in Fat, High in Energy: Ideal for our 4-legged Friends needing to maintain a healthy weight. Rabbit provides high energy without the extra calories from fat. This makes it perfect for active BFFs or those needing to shed a bit of “fluffiness.”
- Sustainable and Ethical: Rabbit farming has a lower environmental impact compared to traditional livestock. It's a more sustainable choice, reflecting a growing trend towards eco-conscious food options for 4-legged friends and humans alike.
Not recommended for BFFs with notable dental issues. Beast Treat Snack Sticks are dehydrated and, consequently, are considerably crunchy. If significant dental inflammation, teeth or gum disease are present , crunching on Patties could cause discomfort, pain and even further damage.

Dietary / Nutritional Benefits
Dietary / Nutritional Benefits
Rabbit is a good food source for dogs and cats because it is high in protein, low in calories and sodium, and contains many vitamins and minerals.
- Protein: Rabbit has a higher protein-to-fat ratio than other meats and is a good source of lean protein.
- Vitamins and minerals: Rabbit is high in vitamins B3 and B12, as well as selenium, phosphorus, potassium and iron, which are crucial for energy, blood health, and bone strength.
- Omega-3 fatty acids: Rabbit is richer in omega-3s than chicken or pork, which can help control inflammation.
- Low in cholesterol: Rabbit contains low amounts of saturated fats.
ESSENTIAL Amino Acids (EAA): These comprise a critically important class of amino acids that must be sourced from diet, as they cannot be synthesized by the cells of mammals (that’s our 4-legged BFFs and us, too).
- Lysine, an EAA crucial for protein building.
- Isoleucine, an EAA that is essential for making hemoglobin. It plays an important role in controlling blood sugar, boosting energy, and improving endurance.
- Leucine, another EAA with a prominent role in protein synthesis. It is particularly important for muscle growth and repair.
- Threonine, an EAA necessary for synthesis and maintenance of collagen and elastin.
- Valine, an EAA that has stimulant activity, promoting muscle growth and tissue repair.
- Phenylalanine, an EAA that is involved in biosynthesis of proteins, neurotransmitters and hormones. It is precursor of dopamine which is important in regulating coordination, movement, as well as feelings of pleasure and reward; it is also a precursor of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that helps in the regulation of mood, appetite and cognitive function.
Novel protein: Rabbit is considered hypoallergenic and is a good choice for dogs and cats with sensitive stomachs or food allergies.
Livestock and Environmental Sustainability
Livestock and Environmental Sustainability
For our products, RUFUS BFF sought out farms and processors that share our vision of providing products based on acceptable farming practices, including sustainability. Our providers take environmental sustainability seriously and, to the maximum extent practicable, livestock are raised under circumstances that simulate those that would be experienced in their natural environments, engaging in behaviors considered to be their normal state.
Rabbit farming has a desirable environmental impact due to rabbits having a smaller carbon footprint than other livestock; and, because they require less feed and water to produce meat. For example, rabbits can produce six pounds of meat using the same amount of food and water that cattle use to produce one pound.
Rabbits also don't need as much space as other livestock, which means they use fewer energy resources. Rabbits can eat a grain-free diet of alfalfa, compost scraps, and foraged grass, which is cheaper and more naturally available.
